Projecting song lyrics helps the whole congregation sing together, including visitors who do not know the songs yet. The goal is simple: the right words, on the screen, at the moment people need them. Here is a method that works in a small church with one laptop as well as in a large sanctuary.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
King James Version
1. Prepare the songs before Sunday
Collect the songs of the service a few days ahead. In BibleSlide you can search the built-in hymn library, type a song, or import your existing files from OpenLP, OpenSong, EasyWorship, ProPresenter or ChordPro. Check the spelling once: a typo on a big screen is seen by everyone.
2. Split each song into readable slides
- Two to four lines per slide is easy to read from the back row.
- Mark each part: verse 1, chorus, verse 2, bridge. You can then repeat the chorus without duplicating it.
- Keep a line together when it is sung in one breath.
3. Build the order of service
Add the songs, Bible readings and announcements to the service in the order they will happen. On Sunday the operator only moves forward: no searching while people are already singing.
4. Follow the singers, not the slides
- Change the slide just before the last line ends, so people can read the next words in time.
- If the worship leader repeats a chorus, jump to it with one click.
- Use the phone remote if the operator also plays or sings.
5. Make it readable for everyone
Use a large font, strong contrast and a calm background. Avoid busy videos behind the words. For musicians, a stage screen can show the next slide and the chords while the congregation sees only the lyrics.
Copyright: public-domain hymns can be projected freely. For modern songs, check your church’s licence (for example CCLI) — BibleSlide can produce a song usage report for it.
