Kilè m' ava ale pou m' adore Bondye lakay li? 3 (042:4) Lajounen kou lannwit m'ap kriye. Se dlo ki soti nan je m' ki sèvi m' manje. Se tout tan moun ap mande m': -Kote Bondye ou la? 4 (042:5) Kè m' ap fann lè m' chonje bagay tan lontan: mwen te konn mache ansanm ak yon foul moun, ki te konn ale lakay Bondye. Moun yo te konn fè fèt, yo te konn chante, yo t'ap di Bondye mèsi. 5 (042:6) Mwen pale ak tèt mwen, mwen di: -Poukisa m' kagou konsa? Poukisa m'ap plede plenn konsa nan kè m'? M'ap met espwa m' nan Bondye, paske mwen gen pou m' fè lwanj li ankò. Se li k'ap delivre m', se li ki Bondye mwen. 6 (042:7) Wi, mwen kagou. Se poutèt sa, kote m' ye a, bò larivyè Jouden an, sou mòn Emon osinon sou mòn Miza, tout tan lide m' sou ou. 7 (042:8) Yon lanm lanmè rale yon lòt lanm lanmè dèyè l' lè gwo lapli ap tonbe. Tout kouran dlo ak tout lanm lanmè yo ap pase sou mwen. 8 (042:9) Lajounen Seyè a fè m' anpil favè. Lannwit mwen chante yon chante pou li. Mwen lapriyè Bondye ki tout lavi mwen. 9 (042:10) Mwen di Bondye ki twou wòch kote pou m' kache a: -Poukisa ou bliye m' konsa? Poukisa pou m'ap viv ak tout lapenn sa a nan kè m', lè lènmi m' yo ap kraze m' anba pye yo? 10 (042:11) Mwen santi tout zo nan kò m' ap fè m' mal. lè moun k'ap pèsekite m' yo ap joure m', lè tout tan y'ap mande m': -Kote Bondye ou la? 11 (042:12) Wi, poukisa mwen kagou konsa? Poukisa m'ap plenn konsa nan kè mwen? M'ap mete espwa m' nan Bondye, paske mwen gen pou m' fè lwanj li ankò. Se li k'ap delivre m', se li ki Bondye mwen.

Sòm 42:1-2

PSALM 42

Psa 42:1-11. Maschil--(See on Psa 32:1, title). For, or of (see Introduction) the sons of Korah. The writer, perhaps one of this Levitical family of singers accompanying David in exile, mourns his absence from the sanctuary, a cause of grief aggravated by the taunts of enemies, and is comforted in hopes of relief. This course of thought is repeated with some variety of detail, but closing with the same refrain.

1-2. Compare (Psa 63:1).

panteth--desires in a state of exhaustion.

Sòm 42:3

3. Where is thy God?--implying that He had forsaken him (compare 2Sa 16:7; Psa 3:2; 22:8).

Sòm 42:4

4. The verbs are properly rendered as futures, "I will remember," &c.,--that is, the recollection of this season of distress will give greater zest to the privileges of God's worship, when obtained.

Sòm 42:5

5. Hence he chides his despondent soul, assuring himself of a time of joy.

help of his countenance--or, "face" (compare Nu 6:25; Psa 4:6; 16:11).

Sòm 42:6

6. Dejection again described.

therefore--that is, finding no comfort in myself, I turn to Thee, even in this distant "land of Jordan and the (mountains) Hermon, the country east of Jordan.

hill Mizar--as a name of a small hill contrasted with the mountains round about Jerusalem, perhaps denoted the contempt with which the place of exile was regarded.

Sòm 42:7

7. The roar of successive billows, responding to that of floods of rain, represented the heavy waves of sorrow which overwhelmed him.

Sòm 42:8

8. Still he relies on as constant a flow of divine mercy which will elicit his praise and encourage his prayer to God.

Sòm 42:9-10

9-10. in view of which [Psa 42:8], he dictates to himself a prayer based on his distress, aggravated as it was by the cruel taunts and infidel suggestions of his foes.

Sòm 42:11

11. This brings on a renewed self-chiding, and excites hopes of relief.

health--or help.

of my countenance--(compare Psa 42:5) who cheers me, driving away clouds of sorrow from my face.

my God--It is He of whose existence and favor my foes would have me doubt.
